If you are like me you try to read as many articles, blogs and books as possible but just cannot catch all of them.  “In Case You Missed It” is my way of pointing out a few “reads” that I think are too good to miss.

New Bible Translation has screenplay format

A new Bible translation tackles the challenge of turning ancient Greek and Hebrew texts into modern American English and then adds a twist: It’s written like a screenplay.

Take the passage from Genesis in which God gets angry at Adam for eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil:

“Adam (pointing at the woman): It was she! The woman You gave me as a companion put the fruit in my hands, and I ate it.

“God (to the woman): What have you done?

“Eve: It was the serpent! He tricked me, and I ate.”

Later, Eve bears her first son, Cain.

“Eve (excited): Look, I have created a new human, a male child, with the help of the Eternal.”

Even people who have never read the Bible could probably guess that other translations don’t say Adam pointed his finger at Eve when he blamed her for his disobedience. Neither do other Bibles describe Eve as “excited” about her newborn son.

That’s pure Hollywood, but the team behind “The Voice” says it isn’t a gimmick. They hope this new version will help readers understand the meaning behind the sometimes archaic language of the Bible and enjoy the story enough to stick with it.

Felix runs thorugh every trial – David Leon Moore

LOS ANGELES — The crazy, confused finish of the women’s 100-meter race in the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Ore., presented every bit of Allyson Felix — all of her honest emotions, all of her graciousness, all of her maturity.

When she thought she was fourth, originally ruled to be edged out for an Olympic berth by training partner Jeneba Tarmoh, Felix hugged Tarmoh and found a quiet place to sob, as she usually does on the rare occasion of a loss. Then she met the news media with a brave smile.

“I’m happy for my teammate who got the third, but this really hurts,” she said.

The ruling was changed shortly after the race to a dead heat for third place, which resulted in a week of controversy regarding USA Track and Field’s awkward tiebreaking procedure.

But even as the debate raged about whether there would be a runoff for the third spot and when it might be, Felix maintained her focus on her signature event, the 200 meters. It is the event in which she has made her name, having won three world titles and two Olympic silver medals, and it is the event in which she will be the favorite in the London Olympics.

Is Starbucks Doing Better Outreach than Your Church? – Tony Morgan During

Easter, my family attended the first service, then we volunteered at the second two services.

Since I’m serving on the guest services team, I was able to pull my youngest daughter out of her class after my job was done welcoming everyone to the third service. That saved her from having to sit through the same lesson for the third time.

And it provided an excuse for me to head over to Starbucks and grab a coffee.
