How do you measure success in leadership? Is it the size of your paycheck or the number of direct reports?

While there is nothing wrong with making money or having a large number of people reporting to you, this is not the standard.

Does it consist of controlling people, information (in the Christian community information often equals power) or finances?

People are not pawns on a life-sized chess board to be moved at our whims. Sharing information communicates trust. Stewardship is always the challenge when handling finances.

Therefore, we are forced to find another way to measure success in leadership.

The Bible gives us the benchmark for successful leadership in multiple passages. None perhaps are as succinct as 2 Timothy 2:2 where Paul challenges us to reproduce ourselves in others.

The Biblical goal is clear.

We are to replace ourselves or even better to multiply ourselves through the lives of many others.

Now that is the purpose of leadership!
