The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity – A Book Review
Every parent has been asked one of those questions that seemingly cause time to stand still. Your mind goes numb, blood rushes to your feet, your palms get sweaty and all you can think to say is “Go ask your ___.” Obviously, no parent wants to be stuck in this situation particularly not when the questions have eternal significance.
As a Christian parent desiring to give godly counsel to your kids it is imperative to arm yourself with biblically based materials. You want to have books available to aid you in answering the tough questions about Christianity. You do not have to know every answer but you can have resources on hand to find the answers.
Recently I was asked by Tyndale and my good friend Dr. Alex McFarland to write an endorsement for his new book The 21 Toughest Questions Your Kids Will Ask About Christianity. As I read the advance reader copy, I got excited and decided to do more than the endorsement. Thus this post. This book should be one of the anchor books of every parent’s library.
In this book Alex really does address tough questions. Honestly, not since Ric Garland and I released Where Was God When…? Real Answers to Hard Questions have I seen anyone take on some of these topics for students. Here is just a sampling of the chapter titles in the book:
- Why Does God Allow Evil?
- Why Does God Allow Suffering?
- Is Jesus Really God?
- When I Pray, Who Is Listening – God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit?
- Is the Bible Really the Word of God?
- Why Are Christians Such Hypocrites?
The content is solid and the layout of the book makes it easy to read. It includes discussion points, charts, lists of Bible verses and activity ideas to aid in the learning process. Although Alex may have had Christian parents in mind when he wrote this book, I highly recommend it to every youth leader as well.
