FalseFlags-748x350

This is a guest post from one of my African American friends, Ade Oni. In light of the events in our Nation recently I believe it is a timely reminder of our priorities.

I never thought I would see the day. A man walking into the Capitol building of The United States of America, draped with a rebel flag. Other people were proudly waving a variety of flags communicating their personal messages. Emotions like fury, disbelief and shock jolted through me like a lightning bolt. How could someone actually believe this was “right?”

A flood of questions erupted within. Did this man truly desire our country to go back to that time of the civil war with all it’s implications? Why did no one stop him? Does this mean that everyone in the mob following this flag approves of him and that message? Does this flag represent his heart and ideologies? Is this the false flag that he chooses to brandish in the heart of our Capitol? Is this the flag that he wishes to represent this nation????

I thought I would be able to get over it. I was wrong . . .  an ill worded message from a well-meaning friend evoked an emotional reaction from my pent-up wrath and pain. I quickly apologized for it! It was at that moment I knew my heart wasn’t right . . . One simple question ran on a continuous loop through my mind . . . “How?”

God answered my question by reminding me that this man isn’t the only person carrying false flags to their altars. In fact, He confronted ME (Ade), revealing the false flags I carry to my altar. I was stunned.

You see, we fashion these flags out of our “good” intentions. We fashion them out of our misguided hope. We fashion them in the likeness of what’s convenient, comfortable, and fits our narrative.

These false flags were never meant to carry the weight of glory, for you see – they are far too fragile.

These false flags can never represent hope, for you see – hope can only come by the power of Another.

These false flags were never meant to carry our joy, for you see – they themselves hold no grace or mercy.

There is one true banner to wave. One true flag to fly. One flag that has ultimate authority. One flag that holds power. One flag that is able to heal and unify: Jehovah-Nissi!  Exodus 17:15 says, “And Moses built an altar and named it, ‘The Lord is My Banner.’”

You see, earlier in Exodus 17, a rival group was attacking Moses and his people. The Lord was with Moses, and as long as he had his hands raised, they were winning. As his hands dipped from fatigue, they began to lose. My man was getting tired, but he called in for back up! His trusted friends Aaron and Hur came to each of his sides and helped uphold his arms. God’s people were victorious, and God asked Moses to keep an account as a remembrance for all generations. Moses did just that and built an altar which he named Jehovah-Nissi “The Lord is my Banner.”

No false flag deserves our worship! NONE! There is not a one! NONE of them are worthy. NONE of them are holy. None of them are able, not a one.

There is only one God that has the authority to lead and protect his people. There is only one true flag: Jehovah-Nissi. I could not help but reflect on my heart and my thoughts thoughts. Only one flag is worthy of my attention and allegiance, the True Flag – the banner of God.

What flag are you following?
